Walking with a friend or your loved ones makes you want to talk somehow. It makes you want to open up. And by doing so, you might hear a different approach to an issue you have. That helps. Even by walking by yourself helps you clear your mind and concentrate. And the timing is perfect for such walks. Its spring, the air is full of scents from blooming flowers, the weather is getting warmer and the day is getting longer. So, we walk every afternoon, to enjoy nature and get a little exercise. Our advice is to take a friend, a family member, your special someone, and go for a walk; youll love it. If none of them want or cant, take your dog. Dont have a dog? Thats ok, this is an activity you can also do by yourself. No more excuses dear friends!
In more recent years though, koulourakia are simply sweet treats and are shaped in ring shapes and hairpin twists. Some shape them like snakes and some make spirals. As long as you are creative the possibilities of shaping the dough are endless! But what the word koulourakia means? Koulourakia is the plural of the word koulouraki. So its one koulouraki and then two koulourakia and so on.
Koulourakia is a very versatile sweet treat. It can be served as a grab-and-go breakfast, a treat and a dessert. But mostly koulourakia are an excellent afternoon companion for a cup of coffee or tea. They are easy to take with you in the office, or on a trip. Its an exquisite travelling treat and your children will love them. Just put some on a bag and share them with your family along the way. Koulourakia can also make you the talk of the day at work. Bake some and share them with your colleagues. Youll score a few points there! ;
Combine molasses, brown sugar, butter, egg and orange zest in bowl. Beat at medium speed until smooth and creamy. Add all remaining ingredients exceptchocolate; beat at low speed until well mixed. Divide dough in half; wrap each half in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm.
Needless to say, I kept it a bit simpler than they did, but these spiced orange sugar cookies were definitely inspired by one of the episodes we watched when a contestant was doing a variation of sugar cookies, a little lightbulb went off in my head and I thought, I should try something like that with my sugar cookie recipe!
Step : cream softened butter sugar
You dont want to over-mix here. I pour the flour mix in with the wet ingredients while the mixer is on low, and then let it mix just until everything is combined. If you mix it for too long, your cookies may come out tough.
Step : roll into dough balls and roll in sugar
I know its not everybodys cup of tea, but I absolutely love the combination of chocolate and orange! Hence, these Chocolate Orange Cookies are right up my street! Big, chewy, and chocolatey what more could you want?
What orange-flavoured chocolate to use?
I went online looking for a recipe just like my grandma's, as hers is lost, and saw this one. Since my name is also Beth, it seemed like a message from my late grandma that this was the right one : They taste just like hers -- fantastic! I would recommend doubling the frosting, however. I also might try using butter instead of shortening the next time, but they are great just like this, no changes needed. Eskerrik asko!
Got a big Mmm! from my husband! The cookie and frosting really complement each other making it a nice, sweet, but light flavor. I added an extra teaspoon of vanilla to the icing since I love the orange julius type of flavor. Will be making again.
WOW! Thanks for another excellent recipe Beth! For years I have been trying to find an orange cookie recipe that was like my ex's grandmothers' and this one is WAY better! I love icing, so I followed the suggestions of some of the prior reviewers and doubled the icing. MISTAKE! There was more than enough icing just as was written. I should know better than to try and improve one of Mrs. Sigg's recipes!
