Traditional shortbread recipes are 1 part sugar, 2 parts butter, and 3 parts flour. Sometimes theres vanilla and salt, but theres no egg and no leavening. Delicious for sure but Ive been making shortbread cookies with a slightly different ratio. Some of my favorite recipes include these flavored cherry almond shortbread, brown sugar shortbread thats sweeter than other recipes, pecan shortbread thats icebox/slice & bake style, and sweet & salty chocolate pistachio shortbread.
